Theodosia Kaitlynne Malfoy was sprawled in front of the Slytherin fireplace. The emerald flames licked at the mossy stone chimney, sending shadows dancing around the dungeon. A font dripping emenated from some dark, desolate corner of the room. Despite the chill, the room was cozy. A group of first years was chattering in a corner around a game of wizard's chess, and some fifth years were quizzing each other for Professor Orstice's O.W.L prep exam. Theo stretched like a cat, then peeled herself off of the rug and got back in an armchair, resuming her crafting. She was using her magic to turn her Slytherin tie of standard green and silver stripes different patterns. She landed on a rather whimsical silver quatrefoil, stenciled on an emerald base. With a smile, Theo strung the tie loosely round her neck and stood, tucking her wand behind her ear. Theo glanced around, large silver eyes curious. She was bored- after all, it was a slow winter Saturday. The wind was howling too hard outside for a casual stroll on the grounds, so everyone was confined to the castle. Theodosia would rather stay in the common room than go to the Great Hall where, surely, those cocky Gryffindors would be gathered, but it was dreadfully boring. Theo had already turned all of her socks bright orange and then back to plain white, but there wasn't much else to do. She had toyed with the prospect of venturing to the library, but the idea was waning. She was willing to bet any Ravenclaws there would be rude, as always. Theo sighed, reaching into her bag for any sort of novel. She found her book, a worn copy of the Tales of Beedle the Bard, and proceeded, with a quiet, polite and well concealed groan, to read. Her ear eyes skimmed over the words without processing them. With a snort, she slammed the book shut, shoving it away. She stood, grabbed her satchel, and stormed out of the dungeon. "I'm going for a walk," she announced. "Anyone is free to join me!" Willeria Apple

Grayson had been sitting in a corner of the room merely observing people. He liked to know what people were up to and had spent much of his first year in the corner. Making friends had never come easily to him, since most people were wary of associating themselves with the Lestrange name and the son of a known criminal. However, by third year, Grayson felt more at home in the dungeon that housed Slytherin. On afternoons such as this, he contented himself with observing the first years as they were the only ones who could draw his interest but they were too simplistic to hold his gaze for long. His gaze quickly turned to Theodosia, better known as Theo, as she slammed a book shut, rose and stormed out of the common room with an open invitation to everyone else. Grayson was quick to rise up and follow her, a charming grin slipping onto his face as he went after her. Of all the people who attended Hogwarts, Theodosia bore a name that warranted her hate as well. She was never hated to the extent that Grayson had endured. Her family had been pardoned of their actions in the war. "I'll join you, if you don't mind," Grayson said, in the low, silky voice that he almost always used. "Wouldn't want you to run into a loose troll on your own, now would we?"He tried to pose it as a simple question, and let a smile be seen so she knew he was only kidding. He didn't want her to think she couldn't handle herself. "Although any half decent Slytherin could handle a troll, and you're more than decent at magic. It's the Gryffindors who had better travel in pairs... Or better yet, fours."He laughed, walking briskly until he caught up to her and then slowed his pace to match hers. Feather

Theo glanced to the side as a boy scrambled out of the common room after her. It was Grayson Lestrange. Theodosia didn't quite know how to behave to Grayson Lestrange. Like her, he bore the name of a family who had once been in league with Voldemort, but unlike her, Grayson's parents had supported the evil wizard. At least Portia Malfoy had publicly defied Voldemort. Nevertheless, Theo was still ostracized by the students. She pretended to be deaf, but she heard the whispers, the rumors, the lies. "That's the Malfoy girl," the Hufflepuffs would whisper. "They say her parents are hiding You-Know-Who at their house, ready to strike again," the Gryffindors would murmur. Desperately, Theodosia wanted to scream, he's dead, and he's not coming back! And although everyone knew this, they still saw fit to torture Theo for something she had never done. She was innocent. They didn't seem to think so. Snapped back to the present by Grayson's flirtatious laughter, Theo studied her classmate in closer detail than ever before. He had long, unkempt hair, that hung in his eyes like spikes. His eyes were warm and friendly, nothing like the pictures of his aunt that Theo had seen (and hidden from). "Yes," she murmured absently. "Although I'm sure you're brilliant as well," she added, flush creeping up her cheeks as she realized exactly what she'd so absently stated. She felt a sudden kinship with Grayson Lestrange, a spark of familiarity. Theo stuck out a hand. "I'm Theo Malfoy, one half of Slytherin's Most Ostracized Students club. Would you like to be the other fifty percent?"

Grayson kept a smile upon his face as she looked up and studied him. He didn't want to lose another chance at a friend. He'd take all the friends he could get, especially a pretty girl like Theo. A tinge of hot red colour touched his cheeks as she responded by directing the compliment back upon him. He couldn't believe he'd never spoken to her before. Malfoys and Lestranges had history and maybe it had been soured by the wizarding wars but it didn't discount the fact that it existed. She openly acknowledged this by inviting him to comprise half the ostracized students club. Or rather, those in Slytherin. "Well I'd suggest someone more deserving of membership but I don't think anyone could even come close to be as hated as I am. Even you are above me on the food chain." He shrugged his shoulders, determined to not let it get to them. "I'm Grayson Lestrange, but you already knew that I'm sure. My friends call me Gray, at least I like to think they would.""We don't need them. We've got each other," he said. He sent a playful wink in her direction, then nudged his shoulder against hers. "If they want to judge us for our lineage, they don't deserve our talent."His hands closed into tight fists as he tried to keep his anger under control. Some of their hate was well deserved and he knew it. He could list a dozen times he'd gotten out of control with anger and he couldn't help but blame his father for that. He'd never erase the scars of his family and he was afraid his children would bear the scars he would leave behind. Feather,

Theo laughed. She couldn't help it. A tiny snort, a giggle escaped her at Gray's words, then his wink. Pressing her lips together to keep the next laugh from bubbling out, Theo glanced at Gray's hands. They were clenched. Theodosia had heard whispers about Gray, but she hadn't given them much thought. They said he was a trouble maker. One second year Hufflepuff had tried to insist that Grayson Lestrange was an unregistered Animagus, and was using his powers to slowly poison all the of Hogwarts's staff. Theo had glowered at her for a split second, and she had squealed in terror and rushed away. Theo had heard even more ludicrous tales about herself- about how she herself was in league with the werewolves in the Forbidden Forest, and how she was building an army. Theo, thinking nothing of it at the time but sure to stress over it later, took Gray's hand in her own. "Don't let them get to you," she said kindly. "What I like to do is tell myself that I'm a famous author, and all of the stories they tell are really stories that I've written. Besides, we're better than them anyway, right? Their blood is-"Theodosia cut off bluntly, panic clawing at her throat. What if Gray was one of those Muggleborn loving Slytherins? What if he didn't believe in blood like she did? Theo didn't hate people because of their blood, she just kept a mental note of who was pure, half, and Muggleborn in her classes. It didn't change anything; it was no different than sorting through buttons to Theo! However, most wizards didn't see it that way. Theo swallowed tensley, and her free hand fiddled with the ends of her straight blonde hair. Willeria

"Their blood isn't as pure," he finished the sentence for her, confirming his stance on the muggle-borns. He tried to keep himself from the thoughts his father had believed in. At least until he was out of Hogwarts. He didn't know what he would ever do if he saw his father again and he shuddered to think of it. He had loyalty in his blood, it was the essence of who he was but could he be loyal to a man who had cared so little for his future? Gray didn't know the answer. He didn't know how to consider his father's alliances and what to make of the world he was sometimes expected to follow. Everyone expected it. Not just his family but even the other students seem to expect it of him. Yet Gray didn't want that. He didn't want to follow the man who'd beat him and his sister. He didn't want to respect the angry image of a father he had known. "I'm not going to let them get to me anyway. It'd be like letting them win when they and their prejudice minds don't deserve it. They haven't heard what my life has been like. For them, the defeat of You-Know-Who brought freedom... For me, it brought a father home who seemed to hate me and blame me for all his problems... And my sister." He let out a long sigh, wishing he hadn't said that. He should not be divulging the private matters of his home, no matter how horrid it was. Even his mother would not be pleased with him. Feather,

Theo paled as the impact of Gray's words hit her. Or, more accurately, as she realized what had hit him. She did her best to quell the sympathy in her eyes- she knew that, surely, Gray would not appreciate being pitied. Suddenly, a memory flared in the back, dark corners of Theodosia's mind, and she beamed at Gray. "I've got an idea. My mum told me about this secret room in the castle, on the fifth floor! There's no door, you have to just walk through the wall. It's a little study room for people who really need to be undisturbed, Mum says she used it all the time during N.E.W.T season. I'll bet no one else knows about it, and we can use it for ourselves!"As they entered the main foyer, Theo glanced at the seemingly endless staircases. "And we'll get our excersise in, won't we?" she said brightly, straightening her tie. "Up we go!"Willeria

Grayson felt lighter having simply let out what he felt about his father. He had never confided in anyone like he'd just done with her and he worried that it might have been a mistake but he tried not to let it bother him. The prospect of a secret room where they could host the Slytherin's Most Ostracized Students Club. However, the prospect of five flights (or is it six?) of stairs was not as promising as it should be. Theo seemed all put together as she embarked upon the long journey upward and Gray felt it was too late to reveal his dismay. He trailed along behind her, taking it one step at a time, thoroughly unimpressed with the ordeal. "You'd think they'd be able to magic up a better way to reach the higher floors," he muttered, mostly to himself. Feather,

Theodosia paused at Gray's mumblings. She cocked her head in a catlike manner, pausing at the landing and allowing her burning calves to have a rest. "Sometimes, when I'm alone- so, really, always- I slide down the banisters," Theo admitted, beaming at Gray. "But I imagine we could magic a quicker way. You know, Voldemort could fly. I bet there's a charm for it somewhere. Think of it- we could do that chameleon charm on ourselves, then fly over the heads of all the students who ever teased us and drop water balloons on their heads."Theo felt sweat matting the hair at the nape of her neck as she began the ascent up the next flight of stairs. "This is the last one, Gray! The room should be-" she dropped her voice as a particularly suspiscious patrol of Hufflepuffs waddled past, then coninued in a lower voice. "The room should be down this hall, across from statue of the knight with a feather duster instead of a lance. No, I don't know why that's so any more than you." Theo glanced quickly over her shoulder at her new friend. She wasn't sure what was going on in his head. Was she frightening him by being so forward? Theo shook the thought away, but t lingered at the back of her head. Suddenly, she felt the need to tell him something big- after all, he'd confided in her. "You know, when my mum defied Voldemort, she lost everything. Her brother, her inheritance, her life. She married my dad and for a while, he had a job. I was born. Then he got laid off. Then he was back in. Then off again. I stay at Hogwarts over the holidays because I know I'll actually have food if I do- and it leaves more food for my parents to eat."Theo knew her cheeks were as red as a Weasley's hair, and her silvery eyes were watery. She hugged herself and glanced away. Willeria

Gray was doing his best to hide his exhaustion as he trudged up the staircases. While he was not fat, he was by no means fit. He'd never been much for excercise and it was really starting to show in his heavy breathing. In fact, he was barely listening as explained how Voldemort could fly and that they probably could do. He made a half laugh at the prospect of dropping water balloons on the heads of insolent students who couldn't just mind their own business. They had finished climbing the stairs as she described where the entrance could be found, keeping her voice too low for the passing Hufflepuffs to hear. He'd finally caught his breath and was ready to be more involved in conversation as she started explaining the sorrows of her own childhood. He'd never spent a holiday at Hogwarts. He'd never had any reason to stay and his sister was at home. He wasn't sure how it would change if he now had a friend. "Maybe once my sister starts coming here, we'll do the same..." He let out a long sigh, hoping she was alright at home. He knew it was safer for her at home now that his father was not there but he could not help but worry that someone bad would find her. Feather
